Nayaz Kalo looks out into the world with dark, wide-awake eyes. The wiry 20-year-old Syrian can't
tell what he's been through and what he's overcome. "I never wanted to leave my home country," he says.
But as a Kurd, it was out of the question for him to do compulsory military service in Syria and join the Assad army in the civil war.
He managed to flee to Germany back in 2014. And today, almost
exactly four years later, we can say that Nayaz Kalo has made it. He began training as a sales assistant
at the Globus DIY store in Kornwestheim. His boss, store manager Bodo Schmitz, is very happy with
him and even holds out the prospect of a career for him: "If he stays loyal to the company, he will stay at Globus
and even take on management tasks in the future." He is reliable, they say, always punctual and
friendly. Although his Syrian employee initially put his training on hold - the language is still causing
problems - he pays him like a trained specialist. Nayaz Kalo works in the tools and
hardware department, advising customers and in sales.
What the 20-year-old likes about his job is dealing with customers. "It's the greatest thing for me when someone comes to
and says: "You gave me such good advice last time, can you help me?", says
Kalo with shining eyes. His career at the DIY store is also something
special from another point of view: "I actually wanted to work in the food trade," he admits. But after a few months
internship at the Kornwestheim DIY store, he went to his boss and said: "I want to stay here."
So he put his dream career on hold for a while - and only then did he find his dream job.
"It's fun, the boss and my colleagues are totally behind me," enthuses the 20-year-old.
It was all possible because Nayaz Kalo had three things: firstly, enormous ambition; secondly, an employer,
who gave him a chance; and thirdly, someone who combined these two things. The company advisory service at the Ludwigsburg district job center played an
important role in this. Nayaz Kalo initially
received an introductory qualification with a focus on the German language. His colleagues in the training department at
noticed his commitment and willingness to learn. The company advisory service then put him in touch with
Globus Kornwestheim. "Our advantage is that we know our customers, the local businesses, and
their needs. On the one hand, this allows us to provide companies with committed employees and, on the other, to show
job seekers career prospects," says Christian Zillmann, team leader of the
company advisory service at the Ludwigsburg district job center.
Background: The company advisory service at the Ludwigsburg district job center forms a bridge between customers,
who are looking for work, and employers who are looking for employees. In cooperation with the other specialist departments
, it can offer support programs, qualifications and language courses that facilitate placement in the job market
. The portfolio of company advice is rounded off by advice on support services
in accordance with SGB II.
