District administration relies on bikes! District administration receives award as a "bicycle-friendly employer" - More and more employees are using bicycles to get to the office

The General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) has awarded the Ludwigsburg District Office the title of "Bicycle-friendly employer". The silver certificate applies to the main office in Ludwigsburg. Tobias Husung, press spokesman for the ADFC Landesverband Baden-Württemberg e.V., presented the certificate to Head of Department Andreas Eschbach at the start of the Health Day organized by the district administration for employees. "The Ludwigsburg district administration supports employees who use bicycles to get to work with many different measures. This brings many advantages: The employer can score points in terms of company health, environmental and mobility management," said Husung. Head of department Eschbach reported that colleagues in the district administration can take part in campaigns such as city cycling in teams. "Regular campaigns such as bike checks, the winter bike-to-work day and company outings by bike motivate our employees to get on their bikes. Of course, it is important that everyone can park their bikes safely, dryly and, if possible, at ground level. Of course, we also offer changing facilities and showers and this was rated positively by the ADFC," says Eschbach.

Anyone who pedals receives a bicycle kilometer allowance

When it comes to certification, the bicycle club also attaches importance to the fact that, in addition to subsidies for public transport, there are also benefits for those who commute by bike. Since January 2023, the Ludwigsburg district office has been offering a bicycle kilometer allowance. If they cycle to work, employees of the Ludwigsburg District Office can receive 30 cents per kilometer for the one-way trip (max. 80 euros per month).

Bicycle-friendly employers are winners

For the ADFC, bicycle-friendly employers have many advantages, as they save resources and use their finances wisely. After all, it is cheaper and saves more space to park a bicycle than a car. "Getting employees on bikes benefits them in several ways. Regular exercise has been proven to improve health and increase motivation," explains Husung. For him, employers who systematically promote cycling and have themselves certified are winners: "If more people cycle to work and use their own bikes or pedelecs provided by the employer for business trips, this prevents a lack of exercise. People who cycle regularly have on average a third fewer sick days - and a lower risk of infection."

The district administration's goal: climate-neutral by 2035

The Ludwigsburg district administration's bicycle-friendly measures are an essential part of sustainable mobility management. They contribute to the goal of making the district administration climate-neutral by 2035. After all, employee mobility is also part of theCO2 balance.

The ADFC has been awarding the EU-wide "Bicycle-friendly employer" certification since 2017. Further information can be found at www.fahrradfreundlicher-arbeitgeber.de.
