District office grants exception: Baroque in Bloom gardens may remain open to the public

Although the tightening of the Corona Ordinance, known as the "emergency brake", will take effect in the Ludwigsburg district from Monday, March 29, the gardens of the Blooming Baroque can remain open to the public. This was decided today by the Ludwigsburg District Office.

A large, elegant palace with a light yellow facade stands at the center, surrounded by manicured gardens. Flower beds with colorful blooms and neatly trimmed hedges line a pathway leading to the building. Benches for seating are visible on the side.

Last Friday, the district of Ludwigsburg recorded a 7-day incidence of more than 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants for three days in a row. As a result, botanical gardens, which could previously be visited by prior appointment, are to be closed to the public from midnight on Monday. However, the Ludwigsburg district health authority has now granted the Blühenden Barock an exception to this rule.

The gardens of the Blühenden Barock are very extensive outdoor areas. Unlike botanical gardens, the emphasis here is on the park character. The risk of infection is no different to that of Favorite Park or the grounds of Monrepos Palace, for example. However, these are not affected by closure orders. The transmission of aerosols can be prevented with little effort by consistently maintaining the minimum distance.

"The exceptional opening of the Blooming Baroque makes sense from an infectiological point of view. This will relieve the burden on other parks and nature reserves in the district. The opening also contributes to the recreational needs of the population, who have had to put up with considerable restrictions for a year now," says District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier. The District Administrator had coordinated closely with Ludwigsburg's Lord Mayor Dr. Matthias Knecht on Saturday.

Dietmar Allgaier and Matthias Knecht both emphasized that not only is there a functioning hygiene concept in the parks of the Blühenden Barock, but that there is also an obligation to wear a face mask outdoors. In addition, there is a limit on the number of visitors. The basis for the decision is that visitor traffic takes place exclusively outdoors.

Strict hygiene concepts and the general requirement to make appointments in advance would, according to the district administrator and mayor, ensure that there would be no excessive crowds of visitors. However, where large crowds of visitors are to be feared or there are indoor offers, the current incidence does not allow opening. For this reason, parts of the Märchengarten will remain closed as before.
