District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier disappointed by the results of the refugee summit

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier is critical of the second meeting convened by Interior Minister Nancy Faeser last Thursday (February 16) in Berlin with representatives from the federal with representatives from the federal government, federal states and local authorities: "The results are more than disappointing for me. more than disappointing - one year after the start of the new refugee crisis caused by the war in war in Ukraine, the main result of the summit was to form working groups. I ask myself why they were not convened eleven months ago. The fact that the Federal Chancellor Chancellor is not making this extremely important issue a top priority shows that the municipalities are are apparently still being left to fend for themselves," said the district administrator.

According to the head of the district administration, the districts are still receiving too little financial
support from the federal government for the accommodation of refugees. The lump sum of 2.75 billion
euros for 2023 will not be enough. The accommodation of refugees is fundamentally a national
responsibility of the federal and state governments. The district therefore expects these costs to be borne in full by
the federal and state governments, as was the federal government's practice until 2021. "We also expect
the federal and state governments to ensure a fair distribution of refugees both within Germany
and in the EU. It is unacceptable for Baden-Württemberg to take in more refugees than
the whole of France. The Königstein Key applied within Germany also no longer reflects the realities
. In the district of Ludwigsburg, the district and district municipalities have to occupy sports halls
while living space is empty in other federal states," criticizes District Administrator Allgaier.
In addition, a turnaround in migration policy, better protection of the EU's external borders,
the prevention of irregular migration and the facilitation of faster departures are necessary.

As of February 10, a total of 7,331 Ukrainian refugees were registered in the Ludwigsburg district
. Apart from Ukraine, refugees currently come mainly from Syria, Turkey,
Afghanistan, Iraq and Georgia. Dietmar Allgaier: "The federal government must be aware that
the number of refugees
will also increase due to the terrible earthquakes in Syria and Turkey. Since the first wave of refugees in 2015, the districts, cities and municipalities have already
shown that they are taking their responsibilities seriously. But we want to provide refugees with humane
accommodation and integrate them into our education and social systems." According to the district administrator, this is no longer
guaranteed.

There are currently hardly any places available in the district of Ludwigsburg that can be filled, which is why
sports halls now also have to be occupied. The sports hall at the vocational school center in
Bietigheim-Bissingen (Fischerpfad) is currently home to 98 asylum seekers. The hall at the Carl-
Schaefer School in Ludwigsburg has been prepared for occupancy, but is not yet occupied. The
Liederkranzhaus rented by the town of Bietigheim-Bissingen with a capacity of 46 places
is currently being prepared for occupancy as emergency accommodation. Sports halls in Asperg, Kornwestheim
and Eberdingen are also currently being used to accommodate refugees. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier sees the announcement by the
federal government that it will also make federally owned properties available as
an advance. In Ludwigsburg at least, the property named by the federal government has still not been approved by the responsible federal office
for the accommodation of refugees.
