Ludwigsburg district has issued a heat warning

The Ludwigsburg district is currently enjoying summer weather. The German Weather Service (DWD) is forecasting daytime temperatures of more than 32 degrees Celsius until Thursday, August 15, 2024. The heat is also associated with health risks. The health authority has now declared heat warning level 1 for the district.

The criteria defined by the Heat Protection Round Table for a district-wide heat alert (32 degrees for at least 3 days in a row) are currently fulfilled. The steering committee established as part of the heat action plan has therefore declared heat warning level 1 for the district of Ludwigsburg, thereby setting in motion defined alert chains. The public health department has alerted all local authorities and the relevant stakeholders, who send corresponding heat warning emails to the relevant target group via their distribution lists, as provided for in the Heat Action Plan (HAP).

In the warning emails, the relevant areas (municipalities, outpatient/inpatient care facilities, doctors' surgeries, pharmacies, hospitals, etc.) are warned of the situation and the health effects. In addition, reference is made to the use of the information sheets and action plans for heat protection.

Effective measures to protect against summer heat

In order to protect yourself from the effects of the heat in the current high temperatures, a number of important measures should be observed. Physical exertion should be avoided and breaks should be taken instead so as not to put additional strain on the body. Drinking enough water is essential to prevent dehydration. When eating, care should be taken to eat light food that does not place unnecessary strain on the body.

It is also advisable to avoid direct sunlight and stay in the shade instead. Sunscreen and wearing a hat outdoors offer additional protection. If possible, the coolest environment should be sought indoors. Ventilating in the morning to let in fresh, cool air and closing windows and darkening rooms during the day to keep out the heat are also important measures.

Warm showers, cooling your arms, legs and neck with wet towels and elevating your legs can help cool you down. Wearing light, breathable clothing that covers the skin is also recommended. If necessary, technical means such as fans or air conditioning can be used

to keep living spaces pleasantly cool, although the room temperature should not be cooled too low.
