Situation eases

Good news for the flood situation in the Ludwigsburg district: the water levels are falling. The management team remains on standby and the municipal crisis teams have been informed of the new situation. All Nina warnings for the district of Ludwigsburg are currently being withdrawn.

A total of 58 residents of the Kleeblatt nursing home and 40 residents of the ASB nursing home in Steinheim were evacuated.

The danger situation in the district was still acute on Monday morning (June 3). Even though there was no more heavy rain, the water levels of the Rems and Murr were expected to rise further. Shortly after 11 a.m., the situation eased as the crests of the rivers were reached.

Heavy rain had hit the northern and north-western parts of the district on Sunday afternoon in particular. Around 80 buildings were flooded in Walheim alone; another 20 buildings were affected in Löchgau. In Walheim, some of the electricity had to be cut off. Leaking oil tanks caused additional problems. Numerous emergency calls were received within a very short time. That evening, emergency crews placed 7,000 sandbags between Freiberg and Benningen to push back the floodwater.

A total of 250 firefighters were deployed throughout the district. They filled 16,500 sandbags, 6,500 of which had already been delivered to the district of Göppingen on Saturday morning. Forces from the Ludwigsburg district also provided support in the Rems-Murr district.

The Ludwigsburg police headquarters was also involved in the emergency measures and provided support, particularly in cordoning off flooded roads and directing traffic. With its own command staff, a liaison officer in the district's crisis management team and liaison officers in the municipal emergency management teams, the police measures were coordinated and closely coordinated with the other authorities and organizations involved. Additional emergency personnel were also made available to deal with a possible larger emergency situation.

"My heartfelt thanks go to all the emergency services who have worked with great dedication since the heavy rain began to keep the situation under control and actively supported the local citizens," said the district administrator.
