Climate-proof trees planted in Heimerdingen forest

The Heimerdingen forest in the Ditzingen district is getting even greener: District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier, District Office Head of Department Dr. Simon Boden and the two managing directors of the Ludwigsburg-based company Conductor, Roland Görgens and Helmut Kilger, recently planted their ten thousandth tree there to mark the company's tenth anniversary.

A total of around 700 new trees were planted on this day. The company's 10,000 euro donation will enable further trees to be planted this year in Korntal and Vaihingen an der Enz.

District Administrator Allgaier: "A fine example of a sustainable cycle"

District Administrator Allgaier emphasized the importance of such plantings: "Almost as much wood as is used by the company is given back through new plantings. This is a good example of a sustainable cycle." He continued: The importance of the forest in our densely populated district can hardly be overestimated. It fulfills numerous functions and provides a variety of services - as a recreational area for people, as a water reservoir, as a habitat for animals and plants and, last but not least, for air pollution control."

Resistant to drought, heat and frost

The focus of the tree planting was on selecting climate-resistant tree species. Lebanon cedars and Bornmüller firs were therefore planted. Both tree species originate from the eastern Mediterranean and are considered to be particularly resistant to drought, heat and frost. They therefore contribute to the development of stable and resilient mixed forests.

The planting campaign was largely organized by the district administration's forestry department, which plays a central role in the planning and implementation of such projects. As a competent service provider, it supports local authorities with forest areas in the sustainable management and further development of their forest areas.
