Sexual assault is any kind of unwanted sexual activity that can cause physical or psychological harm, including rape. "Victims should have themselves examined for injuries and infections as soon as possible and allow evidence to be preserved confidentially," recommends Dr. Uschi Traub, doctor and head of health promotion in the health department of the Ludwigsburg district administration.
In Ludwigsburg, the "Immediate medical help after rape" project has been in place since November 2021 and is available to anyone aged 14 and over who has been the victim of rape. Free and confidential medical care is provided at the RKH Clinic in Ludwigsburg and, if necessary, evidence is also collected for immediate or later reporting to the police.
Information campaign to raise awareness of the service
Victims can only make use of this service if they are aware of it. For this reason, a wide-ranging information campaign is currently underway, organized by Mandy Bronner, an employee of the health department. Large billboards can be seen at various locations in the district, for example at the train station in Ludwigsburg and Vaihingen an der Enz or in Kornwestheim at the Rewe supermarket.
CityCards (postcards) are also available for four weeks in bars and restaurants. From October, advertising on the video board at the bus station in Bietigheim-Bissingen will draw attention to the important project several times a week and up to 300 times a day. At the end of October and beginning of November, bridge banners will be hanging at two locations in Ludwigsburg. A competition for schoolchildren resulted in motifs for printing on bags, seat cushions and much more. The team from the health department will present these in November. "Through the various information measures, we hope that the campaign will reach as many people as possible," says Bronner.
"People in need and victims of violence must not be left alone. It is good and important that there is a free, confidential contact point at the RKH Klinikum Ludwigsburg. It is even more important to publicize the service. With our health foundation, we are making this large-scale information campaign possible and hope to be able to help many affected people in an emergency," explains Isabel Kurz, press officer at Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg.
