The German delegation had previously climbed up to the hut together with their Italian friends. At the naming ceremony, Romina Riccardi, Mayor of Valbondione, emphasized the importance of the natural landscape in the province of Bergamo. Allgaier presented her with a coat of arms of the district, which will be attached to the hut, and said: "The christening of the hut is a real sign of friendship - thank you very much for that. I am delighted and am convinced that many people will use the hut and get to know and love the beautiful surrounding landscape." Schulte then presented the Kreissparkasse with a donation of 1,000 euros for work on the hut.
The Ludwigsburger Hütte (previously: Rifugio Barbellino) in the province of Bergamo - the other Ludwigsburger Hütte is located in the Austrian Pitztal - offers 70 beds and a traditional kitchen. It is open in the summer months. Due to COVID-19, reservations are required for the restaurant and sleeping places. The hut is located in the immediate vicinity of Lake Barbellino and at the foot of Mount Torena, where the River Serio has its source. The hut is surrounded by the peaks of Caronella (2,796 m), Torena (2,912 m) and Pizzo Strinato (2,836 m). It is considered a place of peace and tranquillity and is the starting point for many tours at different altitudes.
During the visit, District Administrator Allgaier held talks with his counterpart, Provincial President Gianfranco Gafforelli, and with the Deputy Mayor of the city of Bergamo, Dr. Sergio Gandi, about further areas of cooperation in the coming years. "I am delighted to have the Italian side on our side as a strong partner and am excited to see what fruits our partnership will bear in the coming years - I look forward to working closely together in the defined areas," said Allgaier. In September last year, the district and city of Ludwigsburg and the province and city of Bergamo signed a letter of intent to work closely together in the future. The next step will be to appoint people responsible for the respective areas from both countries, who will then network with each other. At the same time, at the suggestion of Prof. Dr. Frank Baasner, Director of the Franco-German Institute (dfi) in Ludwigsburg, the Citizens' Council project was set up in order to deal with the coronavirus pandemic at the same time. At this point, the cooperation is to be expanded to include the French partners to create a tri-national dialog.
A visit to the village of Almenno San Bartolomeo, which was attended by the State Secretary of the Italian Ministry of Tourism, rounded off the harmonious visit. Hemmingen has maintained a partnership with Almenno San Bartolomeo since the beginning of 2019. District Administrator Allgaier extended a warm invitation to the Italian friends to pay a return visit to Ludwigsburg.
