Health wins: With the "Golden Ticket" to the J1 examination

Filiz Ugur and Dr. Uschi Traub from the Health Promotion Department of the Ludwigsburg District Office presented the new youth health check-up J1 campaign "Check Dich ab! J1 - your golden ticket to a healthy future''. Around 100 seventh grade students recently took part in the interactive introductory event in the music hall of the Goethe-Gymnasium. The idea for the campaign's design had previously been developed as part of a competition by pupils in an art class at Mörike Gymnasium.

A group of students holds a large banner reading "Das Goldene Ticket" (The Golden Ticket) with the designation "J1." They pose together in a school auditorium, while a crowd of peers is seen in the background, celebrating their achievement.

After a brief introduction to the significance and procedure of the J1 youth screening, the pupils took part in various games and a quiz - inspired by the movie "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". In the movie, five children receive a "Golden Ticket" to visit the mysterious chocolate factory. As part of the new campaign, all seventh-graders receive such a "Golden Ticket" - but for the J1 examination.

The hands-on activities had titles such as "Chocolate greed", "Catch the squirrel", "Make yourself small" and "Guess what". They not only challenged knowledge, but also motor skills. In the end, class 7c came out on top. Pupil Tavia from the winning class was thrilled: "The event was mega! It wasn't just a lecture, we were all involved through games and quizzes. It was made clear what we can expect at the youth health check-up and what the consequences can be if we don't go to the check-up."

According to principal Christof Martin, "it is becoming increasingly important to make young people aware of the importance of early detection examinations and preventative care in order to identify and prevent health problems in good time.

District-wide J1 campaign with strong partners - take part now

The district-wide campaign to increase participation in the J1 screening for all seventh graders is taking place for the fifth time. The HB Ludwigsburg women's handball team has taken on the patronage. In addition to the health department of the Ludwigsburg district office and the Mörike-Gymnasium, the campaign's cooperation partners include the district medical association and the Professional Association of Pediatricians and Adolescent Doctors (BVKJ). The MSD company and Copyshop Kornwestheim are supporting the campaign.

All seventh graders in the district have until July 31 to take part in the campaign competition. They should have already completed J1 or have an appointment, even later in the year.

Why the J1 is so important

J1 is a free screening test for girls and boys between the ages of 12 and 14, to which young people in Baden-Württemberg are legally entitled. Unfortunately, only around 40 percent of adolescents go to J1. The early detection of illnesses and risk factors that endanger physical, mental and social development during puberty offers the opportunity to set the course in good time and make corrections to existing findings.
