Gerlingen Mayor Georg Brenner bids farewell on Sunday after 20 years in office - District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier: "You were a mayor with heart and soul and at the same time a committed European"

After a total of 20 years in office and almost 50 years in public service, Gerlingen Mayor Georg Brenner was bid farewell to retirement by District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier on Sunday morning in Gerlingen Town Hall. "You were a mayor with heart and soul, always present in the town, in the clubs and church organizations and at the same time a convinced European," said District Administrator Allgaier in his speech. Together with the municipal council, the outgoing mayor had played a decisive role in shaping the positive development of the town, continued the head of the district administration. Not least because of this, he said, the town's population had grown steadily and Gerlingen was on its way to becoming a large district town.

In this context, Allgaier quoted the Italian poet and philosopher Dante: "One waits for the times to change, the other tackles them and takes action." During Brenner's time in office, a lot has been tackled and achieved in the southernmost town in the district, said Allgaier. He listed a few examples of this: the ban on HGVs driving through the town, the town's very orderly economic situation, its strength as a business location with a large number of local companies and businesses as a result of active economic development, the construction of numerous daycare centers, the renovation of the schools and the urban redevelopment including the redesign of the town hall area with extension and underground parking extension, the consistent application of the guideline "inner development before outer development" in urban development, a large number of sporting, cultural and family-friendly offers and thus a high quality of life. According to Allgaier, Brenner's good performance in office was rewarded by the citizens, as he received 97 and 94 percent of the votes in the two re-elections in 2007 and 2015 despite two competitors.

"In your work, you were a communicative, rhetorically very skilled team player," the district administrator noted. This was appreciated in the city, but also by the district administration. "I have been told that the cooperation between the district administration and you was always good and trusting," said Allgaier. He also emphasized that Brenner had worked in public service for a total of almost 50 years. "That is a very long period of time and a great lifetime achievement and therefore deserves great thanks and respect," said Allgaier.

The 65-year-old Brenner is leaving at his own request during the current term of office. Allgaier wished him "all the best for his retirement, above all health, happiness and sufficient leisure time for the things that may have been neglected during his time as mayor". The new mayor of Gerlingen, Dirk Oestringer, takes office on February 1. His official inauguration is on February 3.
