Joint steep slope wine celebrates its premiere

An important milestone for the preservation of steep vineyard sites in the Ludwigsburg district has been reached: the "Weinbergwerk", an association of several wineries from the Neckar and Enz region, has bottled the first bottles of its joint steep vineyard wine. On Monday, April 27, 2026, Managing Director Lisa Ernst and Board Member Michael Böhm presented District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier with a bottle each of Blanc de Noir, Rosé and Red - along with thanks for his commitment to supporting the steep slopes.

Common brand for the region's cultural landscape

Over the past year and a half, the participating wineries have worked intensively on developing the wine style, branding and bottle design. A significant step has now been taken with the first bottling: the wines are now available.

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier was enthusiastic about the project and the design of the new brand: "The concentrated steep slope expertise of the Neckar and Enz is now available as an intensely flavorful wine - it is a very successful idea to bring our region to the bottle via the N&E brand."

Responsibility for the future of the steep slopes

The Weinbergwerk is a community of independent winemakers on the Neckar and Enz rivers who want to take joint responsibility for the future of the terraced steep vineyard slopes. The aim is to place high-quality wines on the market at fair prices and at the same time raise consumer awareness of the unique cultural landscape.

The participating companies include Lauffener Weingärtner, Lembergerland Kellerei, Teamwerk Esslingen and Weingärtner Marbach. Other businesses can join the joint project at any time.

Presentation at wine fairs and cultural events

The new wines have already been presented at the Eurovino wine fairs in Karlsruhe and at the BW Classic in Dresden. They will also be presented at a cultural event in Ludwigsburg on May 9, 2026. Together with pianist Sophie Pacini, visitors can look forward to a special evening of culture and enjoyment.

Tickets for the event are available from the participating businesses and on the vineyard's website.

District supports preservation of steep slopes

The steep vineyard slopes have characterized the landscape of the Ludwigsburg district for centuries. In view of the challenges on the wine market, the district is supporting the joint project with around 290,000 euros in the initial phase. The aim is to strengthen the economic viability of steep slope cultivation and thus contribute to the long-term preservation of this labor-intensive cultural landscape.

The district is also committed to the future of steep slopes in other areas. For example, the office of the Neckarschleifen Regional Development Association, which promotes small projects to preserve the steep slopes, is located in the district. In addition, the steep slope commissioner is a central point of contact for ideas and projects relating to the sustainable development of steep slopes. The district is also in constant contact with specialist authorities, political decision-makers and potential funding providers in order to provide the best possible support for committed local stakeholders and to open up new development opportunities for the steep slopes.
