In Baden-Württemberg alone, 8,620 school students took part in the European Competition to think about what constitutes togetherness in a digital world throughout Europe. The participants in the European competition translated these ideas into pictures, collages, poster campaigns, videos, podcasts, poetry slams, poems and even songs in their purely digital submissions this time. The whole thing was finally judged by the state jury - also for the first time in the digital space. In 13 tasks for different class levels, the participants were completely free to deal with the advantages and disadvantages of the omnipresent developments: The Internet generation, especially primary school pupils, were called upon to dream of the playful and technical possibilities that modern technology opens up for them. The older participants tackled the big issues and looked at the changes in communication and art, as well as the consumption of technology and its impact on the environment. Finally, the special task gave all age groups space to creatively process the current crisis situation, which poses equal challenges for all people in Europe.
The European competition is aimed at pupils of all school types and grades. It addresses issues that are essential to the process of European unification: education for democracy and tolerance, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, the protection of minorities or the preservation of cultural heritage in Europe, as well as civil society and multicultural learning. The European Competition is held under the patronage of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, and in Baden-Württemberg also under the patronage of the Minister for Culture, Youth and Sport. In Germany, the competition is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Federal Foreign Office and the cultural and senate administrations of the federal states.
