First timetable improvements from March 2: Strohgäubahn expands its services

A comprehensive package to further increase the attractiveness of the railroad line between Korntal and Heimerdingen was approved by the assembly of the Strohgäubahn special-purpose association at its last meeting. Implementation will take place in two stages. The first timetable improvements will be introduced on March 2.

A bright yellow train with a green design travels along a railway amidst a field of dandelions. The landscape features lush grass and a tree in the background, suggesting a rural setting under a partly cloudy sky.

The Strohgäubahn is very popular and passengers are taking up the service so well that the trains are sometimes very crowded. These capacity bottlenecks at peak times are now being remedied by running longer trains.

Additional journeys in the evening hours should further increase the attractiveness of the service and appeal to new passengers. Additional trains will therefore be available to passengers from March 2, 2020:

The operating time of the Strohgäubahn will be extended by one hour. The last journey will now take place daily at 00:05 from Korntal and 00:31 from Heimerdingen.

Passengers traveling from Stuttgart can now use the S-Bahn from Stuttgart Stadtmitte at 11.46 p.m. as the latest option for their journey home. Previously, the last S-Bahn journey there was at 22:46.

The half-hourly service during the week will be extended by two hours. Two additional journeys will be introduced at 9.35 pm and 10.35 pm. In future, the half-hourly service will be available until 11.05 p.m. from Korntal and until 11.31 p.m. from Heimerdingen.

The next extension stage will be implemented with the timetable change in December 2020. The half-hourly service will then also run on Saturdays on the Strohgäubahn.

In addition, the VVS has placed Hemmingen and Heimerdingen on the 2/3 fare zone boundary as of January 1, 2020. This means that there are now a maximum of two zones to Stuttgart on the entire route of the Strohgäubahn. The ticket to the state capital now costs 2.90 euros instead of 4.20 euros.
