Sensitive and impressive: art objects from the "Sexual violence has no place" school competition presented

Alexei Savinov, art teacher at Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium Ludwigsburg (FSG), and Dr. Uschi Traub, District Office Health Department, recently presented the artworks created by pupils from FSG and Elly-Heuss-Knapp Realschule (EHKRS) in the "Sexual violence has no place" competition to the Ludwigsburg Youth Community Council.

A group of seven people stands together in a brightly lit room, each holding tote bags featuring various designs. Behind them, display boards showcase additional artworks and graphics, contributing to a creative and collaborative atmosphere.

Last year, Traub and her colleague Mandy Bronner presented the project "Emergency medical aid after rape" to the youth council. This gave rise to the idea of an artistic approach to the topic of sexual violence by pupils. Pupils from FSG Ludwigsburg and Elly-Heuss-Knapp Realschule took part in the "Sexual violence has no place" competition organized by the health department last semester. A jury consisting of Cynthia Schönau, Equal Opportunities Officer of the District Office, Chris Hellerich, Ludwigsburg Police Headquarters, Prevention Department, Steffen Ade, printing expert, and Traub selected the winners.

"With their sensitive and impressive works, the young artists have inspired us to engage with this important topic," said Traub. First place went to Miriam Tuchel (EHKRS) and second place to Yolanda Kuhn (FSG). Third place went to Eren Akgül, Henri Haas and Leonhard Weil (FSG). Winner Miriam Tuchel says about the art competition: "I found working on the project very important because it helps others and you can help people who are affected by this serious issue. Through the project, you find out where you can get help." Lord Mayor Matthias Knecht says: "Sexual violence is a terrible crime. We must do everything possible to combat it. Raising awareness is an important part of this."

The public has the opportunity to view the works at various events

In Ludwigsburg, the "Immediate medical help after rape" project has been running at the RKH Clinic there since November 2021. A total of three other clinics in Baden-Württemberg are also involved in the project. In 2024, a comprehensive information campaign was launched under the direction of health department employee Mandy Bronner with eye-catching large-format posters, CityCards, a still video board and bridge banners. This campaign was intended to draw the public's attention to the issue and raise awareness of the important support available to those affected. This school competition was part of the overall campaign.

The public has the opportunity to view the works at various events. Interested parties can also purchase shopping bags featuring the two winning designs. Pupils pay two euros, adults five euros.
