A free pretzel for bicycle commuters

663 bakeries in Baden-Württemberg are handing out free pretzels to cyclists to mark World Bicycle Day. Many branches in the Ludwigsburg district are also taking part.

From May 30 to June 3, bicycle commuters in Baden-Württemberg can look forward to a special thank you. On the occasion of World Bicycle Day on Friday, June 3, the RadKULTUR initiative of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport is running the Commuter Pretzel campaign for the second time. From Monday to Friday, anyone who can prove that they are on their bike before 10 a.m. will receive a free pretzel in 663 participating bakeries in the state. Cyclists in the Ludwigsburg district can also pick up a free pretzel. Bakeries in Asperg, Bietigheim, Bissingen, Erdmannhausen, Eglosheim, Großbottwar, Heimerdingen, Eberdingen-Hochdorf, Hoheneck, Ludwigsburg Süd, Marbach am Neckar, Markgröningen, Poppenweiler, Remseck and Rielingshausen are taking part in the RadKULTUR campaign.

With the five-day campaign, the Ministry of Transport and the bakeries in the state are thanking all those people who already use bicycles as a means of transport in their everyday lives or who are trying them out during this week. This year, Commuter Pretzel Week culminates in World Bicycle Day and focuses on the numerous advantages of cycling: cycling protects the climate and requires comparatively little space. The bicycle is also a fast and flexible means of transport, especially over short distances, and is therefore perfect for everyday journeys. With the daily campaign period until 10 a.m., the CommuterBrezel is aimed specifically at commuters. Regardless of whether they cycle to work, school, university or kindergarten: The RadKULTUR initiative rewards them with a free pretzel for being healthy and climate-friendly on the road.

The campaign is a cooperation between the RadKULTUR initiative and the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Fahrrad- und Fußgängerfreundlicher Kommunen in Baden-Württemberg e. V. (AGFK-BW) and bakeries in the state. It was held for the first time in September 2021 and was a complete success. Back then, the participating bakeries handed out around 100,000 free pretzels to cyclists during the campaign week. This year, the bakery guild associations in Baden and Württemberg are also supporting the Commuter Pretzel.

All 663 participating branches in which the free pretzels are handed out are listed on the interactive RadKULTUR map and can be viewed at the following link: www.radkultur-bw.de/pendlerbrezel
