"I did some general research into apprenticeships in administration. I saw the job advertisement from the Ludwigsburg District Office on the homepage and applied straight away," says Jenny Grundey. There were several reasons why she decided to train as an administrator: The civil servant status and the short training period of two years.
Four stations - four insights into administration
During her training, Grundey worked in three different departments at the district administration office - each with its own focus and challenges. "My first department was the waste fees department. I found it particularly exciting to see how the fees are made up and how the advance payments work," she reports. In the next station - the Budget and Finance department - she quickly realized "that every department in the district administration office is affected by decisions made by the department and that these sometimes have very far-reaching consequences."
The time at the district council office also offered a lot of variety, where the trainee experienced the organization around the district council elections up close: "I was able to help organize many events and accompany them on site." She completed her final stage of training in the fines office - a position that was also varied: "I gained an insight into the activities of the field service and was able to get to know the entire case processing procedure."
Good supervision and personal responsibility
In Grundey's year, ten trainees complete their training in the intermediate civil service, nine of whom are taken on by the district office. Looking back, the 26-year-old is very satisfied with her training: "Everyone made an effort to give me a good overview as a trainee and to show me a lot." A particular highlight for her was her election as Chair of the Youth and Trainee Representative Council: "The election showed me that you can make a difference if you have the incentive to do so."
When asked who she would recommend training at the district administration office to, she replies: "If you enjoy working with people and are enthusiastic about different subject areas, training at the district administration office is just the thing."
