"Wide-ranging": BFD volunteers report
Former BFD volunteer Lena Mitsch explains the special appeal of the BFD position at the Middle Neckar Nutrition Center: "The fields of work at the Middle Neckar Nutrition Center are very wide-ranging: from advising direct marketing companies to training home economics specialists, introducing children to the topic of nutrition, planning exhibitions, trade fairs and information stands to holding lectures and workshops for consumers. Current nutrition trends are discussed in workshops and lectures and implemented in everyday life. The numerous nutrition journals allow interns and BFD students to find out about the current state of research," says Mitsch.
By being based at the Ludwigsburg District Office, they can also find out about current political developments in the field of nutrition and agriculture. "In addition, being part of the agricultural office and working with the organic model region means that you also learn a lot about the agricultural and organic sector," Mitsch continues. "I also found it interesting to see how work functions in an official structure."
Lina Richter would also recommend the BFD position at the nutrition center at any time. She is doing her Federal Voluntary Service at the Middle Neckar Nutrition Center until the end of August 2025. "The work was never boring. I was able to develop personally and learned new skills and abilities that I can put to good use for my planned ecotrophology studies. The working atmosphere is pleasant and I really enjoy going to work."
BFD volunteers are fully integrated into the team at the nutrition center and are allowed to take on projects and tasks independently. The position offers the opportunity to be active in administration at the interface between consumers and agricultural businesses, to gain experience in office organization and nutrition education and to gain confidence in dealing with different target groups.
Internships and practical semesters are also possible
Students of ecotrophology, nutritional sciences and related disciplines, preferably from the 4th semester onwards, who wish to orient themselves or become involved in the field of nutritional information and education, can complete an internship or a practical semester at the Middle Neckar Nutrition Center. Information on this can be found at https://ludwigsburg.landwirtschaft-bw.de/site/pbs-bw-mlr-root/get/documents_E-789930993/MLR.LEL/PB5Documents/lralb/Ernaehrungszentrum/_Homepage-allgemein/StudienpraktikantInnen_Ernaehrungszentrum.pdf
