The juxtaposition of a selection of mostly graphic prints by Anton Stankowski (1906-1998) with the graphic, painterly and sculptural works of his three students Fritz Arnold, Hans Ginter and Peter Lorenz provides surprising insights and raises the question of whether the influence of the "master" can still be recognized today. The exhibition can be seen on levels 3-9 of the Ludwigsburg District Office until March 22.
The artists explain the history of their exhibition idea as follows: "Back then, at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart in 2006: a retrospective of works by Anton Stankowski - pictures, sketches, art and design. For us: a reencounter and search for traces after forty or fifty years. As young graphic artists at the Stankowski studio, we were influenced by 'Stanko'. His perseverance, his unwavering eye for the essential, the forward-looking, the pioneering. At that time, of course, he was still untouched by the digital world and the megatrends that were taking over. Stankowski had an international reputation. And sometimes, when he showed prominent clients around his studio, he would say with a grin: 'and these are my drawing servants' - by which he meant us."
How differently the former employees developed and shaped themselves: Fritz Arnold, Peter Lorenz and Hans Ginter provide independent answers with their paintings. Visitors to the exhibition can see this for themselves.
