"Quality, sustainability and design standards are not luxury goods"
At the award ceremony, the District Administrator emphasized the special significance of the award-winning projects against the backdrop of changing conditions in the construction sector. While the 2010s were characterized by a strong construction industry, the 2020s are under the impression of rising construction costs, growing demands and economic uncertainties. "All the more impressive are projects that show right now that quality, sustainability and design standards are not luxury goods, but an expression of attitude. And this is exactly what the award-winning projects do," said the district administrator.
Jury chairman Jens Rannow reported on the high quality of the submitted and inspected properties: "Overall, the award process has provided a very good picture of building culture in the district."
High proportion of public building projects among the award winners
A total of 93 projects were submitted for the award - significantly more than in the previous round. The jury selected 21 of these projects. What is striking in this award period is the comparatively high proportion of award-winning public building projects. In view of the considerable cost and savings pressure in this area, the award underlines the high planning and design quality of the projects.
School village at Favoritepark receives award
The district of Ludwigsburg is also represented among the award winners as a client. The award went to the new extension to the school village at Favoritepark. The building in timber frame construction impresses with its bright, friendly design and is a successful example of sustainable redensification. The aim of the project is to create the best possible learning conditions for the special pupils of a special educational and advisory center.
Several award-winning projects are located in the immediate vicinity of the district administration office, including the police command and situation center, the Jägerhofquartier and student housing in Friedrichstrasse. Overall, however, the award-winning properties are spread across the entire district and illustrate the architectural diversity of the region.
The District Administrator thanked the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects for the professional organization of the award process and the jury, who spent two days in September intensively examining the submitted projects.
Exemplary architecture for all to experience
An overview of the award-winning buildings will be on display for all citizens from February 11 to 27 in the conference area of the district administration office (Hindenburgstr. 40) as part of an exhibition. The exhibition can be visited during the usual opening hours of the district administration office. The awards will also be presented in a brochure available in the exhibition, on the homepage of the Chamber of Architects and in the "Architekturführer Baden-Württemberg" app.
About the "Exemplary Building" award procedure
The Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects' award procedure takes place every six years. The aim is to identify exemplary architecture and give it a forum. A seven-member jury assessed the submissions during a two-day site visit. The awards go to the clients and planners, as building culture can only be created where they work together to find an environmentally friendly and people-oriented solution to the building task.
