Second heat protection round table meeting for the district of Ludwigsburg in the district hall: preparations made for the creation of a heat protection plan

Global warming poses a growing threat to society and requires comprehensive action at all levels due to the increasing health risks to the population. So far, however, there are only heat protection plans for individual cities - there are no comparable plans for the districts in Baden-Württemberg. In order to remedy this situation, representatives of various organizations and institutions met on Thursday (23 March) at the invitation of Dr. Robin Maitra, Climate Protection Officer of the State Medical Association, and Dr. Karlin Stark, Head of the Ludwigsburg District Health Office, for the second round table on heat protection in the district building.

A diverse group of 20 individuals is arranged in two rows on a staircase. They are dressed in formal and casual attire, smiling and looking towards the camera. The setting appears to be a modern building interior, suggesting a professional or official gathering.

In addition to the district, which was represented by the civil protection facilities, representatives from care homes, clinics, health insurance companies, the medical profession, pharmacies, the public health department, as well as representatives from local authorities and the education authority also took part in the meeting. The aim was to prepare a heat protection plan for the district of Ludwigsburg. This plan is intended to ensure health-related heat protection for particularly vulnerable groups of people in the affected facilities. Through a comprehensive analysis of the potential risk and careful planning and implementation, staged measures are to be implemented in the event of heat to protect and maintain the health and quality of life of the population in the event of extreme heat.

"The creation of a heat protection plan is an important step towards meeting the challenges of climate change," said District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier, who welcomed the meeting. "The district absolutely supports the measures to draw up heat protection plans. We are aware that this is a complex task, but we are confident that together with all those involved we can develop a plan that meets the needs and requirements of our district and its people."

After the initial preparations in July 2022, this appointment was another step on the way to creating the heat protection plan. Further meetings will take place in the coming weeks and months to further advance the action plans. The involvement of experts and the citizens of the district is an important aspect in the development of the heat protection plan for the district of Ludwigsburg.

"We must ensure that the heat protection plan for the district is based on a broad foundation and involves all stakeholders," said Dr. Robin Maitra. Dr. Karlin Stark added: "We are confident that together we will find a solution that does justice to the protection of the population and at the same time contributes to sustainability."

The heat protection plan for the district of Ludwigsburg is an important project in the fight against climate change. It is also an important step towards a resilient and sustainable future for all citizens of the Ludwigsburg district.
