Second "measles bus" in the Ludwigburg district

The coronavirus is omnipresent. "However, we must not forget other dangerous infectious diseases for which vaccines are already available," said District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier at the presentation of the second "Stop Measles" bus.

A diverse group of people stands on a cobblestone plaza, some in business attire and others in casual clothing. A large, friendly virus mascot is featured prominently in the foreground, symbolizing a health awareness campaign focused on vaccinations, with a bus in the background advertising "Stop Measles!"

In the district of Ludwigsburg, there are large differences in the measles vaccination rate between the municipalities - only a few achieve the required vaccination rate of 95% for both measles vaccinations. At the request of the Municipal Health Conference (KGK), a district-wide "Stop measles!" campaign was therefore launched in summer 2019 as a model campaign for other districts. "Our aim is to inform and educate the population in order to further increase the acceptance of the vaccination, coupled with legal regulations," said District Administrator Allgaier on the occasion of the presentation of the second "Stop Measles" bus on August 25 at the Ludwigsburg District Office.

Irrespective of this, the Measles Protection Act came into force on March 1 of this year. It stipulates that all persons born after December 31, 1970 who are cared for or work in certain institutions must provide proof of measles protection. The law does not cover (young) adults who do not work in a community facility. However, the vaccination gaps are particularly large among young adults. The vaccination campaign aims to reach precisely this target group with various measures. Firstly, campaign postcards will be available in participating Ludwigsburg restaurants and cafés during the summer vacations. Secondly, a second bus bearing the campaign logo is now traveling across the district to raise awareness among other citizens.

District Administrator Allgaier and the cooperation partners/supporters of the campaign (district doctors, AOK, mhplus, Barmer, Unfallkasse Baden-Württemberg, Landesapothekerkammer, Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg and ADE Druck und Medien) once again emphasized the importance of the campaign.
