This is what really good winners look like: The municipality of Pleidelsheim recently took first place in the municipal cooking duel at the Ludwigsburg district office's nutrition center. The cook-off was the first discipline of the District Olympics, in which towns and municipalities compete against each other in a playful way to mark the 50th anniversary of the Ludwigsburg district. But the winners did not rest on their laurels for the best potato salad with homemade Maultaschen. Instead of taking on the work of district administrator Dietmar Allgaier as a municipality - the district administrator would have cleared plates, served beer or similar at a party - the Pleidelsheimers brought the whole district onto the winner's podium.
The district administrator's body weight as a minor matter
"Of course, we would have liked to take the prize, but we thought a district-wide campaign would be much more fitting for the district's anniversary," says Pleidelsheim mayor Ralf Trettner. The mayor bet that his community could easily collect ten times the district administrator's body weight in relief supplies for the food banks throughout the district. "Mr. Trettner still doesn't know my true weight," emphasized District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier at the donation handover. In the end, the targeted 1000 kilograms turned into 2000 - much to the delight of Martin Strecker, spokesperson for the independent charitable organizations in the district, and Ulrike Bötcher and Horst-Michael Alt from the Ludwigstafel in Ludwigsburg.
Number of people in need continues to rise
It is hoped that the high-profile campaign will have "a certain signal effect", said Mayor Trettner at the handover of the donated food. The people of Pleidelsheim had not only delivered heaps of food, but also donated money. Around 5000 euros were collected. "It's great that you thought of the whole district at once," praised Martin Strecker from Diakonie, who is also the spokesperson for the welfare organizations in the district. "Unfortunately, the number of people who are dependent on the support of food banks is still increasing," said Ulrike Bötcher from Ludwigstafel in Ludwigsburg. The donation campaign was a complete success because "the fun of the cooking duel ultimately resulted in something really good," said District Administrator Allgaier.
The food is now to be distributed to the five food banks in the district. And the district administrator still has one more job to do: on October 30, Dietmar Allgaier will come to the Ludwigstafel from 2.30 p.m. to help with the sale.
