Due to some serious animal welfare deficiencies: District veterinarians order the liquidation of a herd of cattle
During routine inspections at a cattle farm in Marbach, the official veterinarians of the district administration found some serious animal welfare deficiencies. Among other things, they discovered an inadequate water supply, a lack of dry lying areas, insufficient manure removal, damaged furnishings and a lack of veterinary treatment for animals in need of treatment. As the measures taken did not bring about any lasting improvements, the veterinary and food monitoring department of the district office issued the livestock owner with a ban on keeping cattle and ordered the cattle herd to be broken up. The herd was dissolved today (December 2) by the livestock owner.
The animals were marketed via a licensed livestock dealer. The farm had a total of 28 cows, three calves and seven bulls. Two heavily pregnant cows and one cow undergoing veterinary treatment remain in the herd until they are ready for transport. The farm will continue to be closely monitored by the official veterinarians until these animals are sold.
