Together with the service provider Radolino from Heidelberg, the project "Energy-saving models at schools in the Ludwigsburg district" is offering four bike checks for participating project schools. The campaign is subsidized by the state initiative RadKULTUR. During the bike check, an expert team checks the pupils' bikes every quarter of an hour. Minor defects such as checking the lighting system or adjusting the brakes are rectified immediately and helpful tips are also included.
Two vocational schools on Ludwigsburg's Römerhügel made the joint start: the Oscar-Walcker-Schule and the Robert-Franck-Schule. "The RadCheck is a great opportunity, especially at our school with the TG Umwelttechnik, to promote cycling to school - for the pupils, but also for the teachers. A lot has already been done in the right direction in recent years, but there is still potential," explains Sabine Haveneth, principal of the Oscar Walcker School.
Wolfgang Ulshöfer, principal of the Robert-Franck-Schule, also emphasizes: "We would like to see even more pupils coming to school by bike. Of course, safety comes first!" It is often only small things that can restrict cycling or even make it a safety risk. The managing director of Radolino, Wolfgang Richert, reports on a recent case in which the RadCheck may have prevented an accident: The handlebars of a school bike were far too loose and were reattached by the Radolino team in just a few simple steps.
"We want to ensure that schoolchildren start the cycling season with a checked bike in a safe and climate-friendly way and practise new mobility habits," says project manager Ellinor Hoyer from the climate protection team at the district office. In order to check as many bikes as possible, the RadCheck always takes place over a period of six hours. As a result, numerous bicycles were checked and made roadworthy at the two kick-off schools.
Info: The cooperation project "Energy-saving models at schools in the district of Ludwigsburg" of the city and district of Ludwigsburg was successfully launched in October 2021 with 12 schools of different types. The aim is to promote topics such as climate protection and sustainability in schools and encourage pupils to get involved.
