Exemplary climate commitment also saves costs

Six companies from the city and district of Ludwigsburg and one from Bad Mergentheim were recognized for their exemplary climate commitment at a digital closing event in early March.

All seven participating companies were recognized as KLIMAfit companies during a digital certificate presentation. These are: Blühendes Barock Gartenschau Ludwigsburg, hünersdorff GmbH, Karawane Reisen, Parker Hannifin Manufacturing Germany, Psychotherapeutisches Zentrum Kitzberg-Klinik, Seitz GmbH and Stadtwerke Ludwigsburg-Kornwestheim.

The seven participating companies successfully took part in the KLIMAfit pilot project of the state of Baden-Württemberg in 2021/2022. This is a pilot program of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector with the aim of developing an individual climate balance sheet and economically viable measures to improve their energy efficiency and reduce emissions.

Julia Neuhäuser, climate protection manager for the district of Ludwigsburg, thanked the participating companies for their courage in breaking new ground. It is important that regionally based companies are committed to supporting the district's climate neutrality goals. "We are pleased and proud that we in the district of Ludwigsburg have been selected as one of three pilot projects in the KLIMAfit area." The process will leave a lasting mark. A second round is therefore planned. Anyone interested can contact the district's climate protection team at klimaschutz@landkreis-ludwigsburg.de.

Roland Schestag from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector explained that a total of 26 companies have taken part in the three KLIMAfit pilot projects over the past ten months. The results are the basis for an evaluation and a possible funding guideline for future project rounds. "Independence in the area of energy supply is becoming increasingly important." Reducing their own energy consumption and at the same time using climate-friendly alternatives on site is currently becoming very important for companies.

KLIMAfit's project partner is the Ludwigsburg District Energy Agency. Kristine Rinderle discussed greenhouse gas balancing as the basis for all further steps in corporate climate management. Calculating the largest sources of emissions in the company enables the participating companies not only to protect the environment, but also to save costs. Issues such as the conscious and economical use of resources and the reduction of emissions are firmly anchored in the operational process. Everyone agreed that "KLIMAfit came at exactly the right time".

About KLIMAfit:

Over a period of nine months, the companies were supported in four joint workshops and three individual meetings by the consulting firm Arqum GmbH from Stuttgart. Each company drew up an individual greenhouse gas balance sheet and a program of measures to reduce emissions. In addition to reducing negative climate impacts and operating costs, the program also creates the necessary basis for company-wide climate management in the companies. The planned measures, some of which have already been implemented, range from the installation of a photovoltaic system, the switch to green electricity and energy-efficient renovations to digital invoices and the provision of company bicycles and e-charging stations.
