From November 23 to probably December 18: Schillerplatz in Kirchheim receives new traffic lights

To increase traffic safety and improve traffic flow, Schillerplatz in Kirchheim - the junction of the B 27 (Besigheimer Straße) / K 1679 (Hohensteiner Straße) - will be equipped with a new traffic light system from November 23.

As part of the project, five new masts including foundations will be erected, the sidewalk areas of the crossings will be converted to make them accessible to the disabled, the paving in Schillerstrasse will be partially replaced with asphalt and Hohensteiner Strasse will be widened over a distance of around 50 meters. To do this, the existing sidewalk has to be narrowed. Due to the widening, traffic coming from the direction of Bönnigheim will have its own right-turn lane. This will reduce traffic jams. The pedestrian crossings will be equipped with so-called blind acoustics so that visually impaired people can cross the road more safely. All signal heads will be fitted with the latest LED technology. The junction will also be equipped with bus acceleration and additional pedestrian traffic lights in Schillerstrasse.

In order to carry out the work, various traffic-restricting measures are necessary. These are as follows:

- Full closure of Schillerstrasse: The access road via Schillerstrasse will be fully closed until December 11. Traffic will have to divert to the surrounding municipal roads. Bus traffic will be diverted via Lissenstrasse to the south. This means that there will be no bus stop in Schillerstrasse. Minor delays are to be expected here.

- Half-sided closure of the K 1679 (Hohensteiner Straße) with one-way traffic control: Traffic from the direction of Bönnigheim and Hohenstein can enter the B 27 in both directions without restriction. However, the gap signaling will not be active for the duration of the roadworks. Traffic in the direction of Hohenstein will be diverted via the L 2255. Bus traffic will be diverted within the town so that all routes remain open. However, time losses are to be expected.

- On the Bundesstraße 27 (Besigheimer Straße) / Walheimer Straße there will only be lane narrowings. It will always be possible to drive through Kirchheim to and from Lauffen.

- In the week from December 14 to December 18, there will be isolated half-side closures for remaining work while maintaining all lanes on the main road.

The costs for this renovation work amount to around 270,000 euros. The district administration office asks residents and road users for their understanding for any disruption caused by the construction work.
