Orchard meadows characterize our landscape and are valuable habitats for birds, insects and herbs. They also provide high-quality food if the trees are well cared for. Regular pruning, the promotion of beneficial insects, young tree care and a variety of species strengthen the orchard, while a balanced diet for the trees and the preservation of humus in the soil are also fundamental. Cultivation methods have changed in recent decades. But what influence does this have on soil and nutrient content?
In order to obtain up-to-date information on this, the Fruit and Horticulture Advisory Service is organizing a district-wide soil sampling campaign and is addressing orchard owners from the Ludwigsburg district. From September 2 to 13, 2024, soil samples from orchards (not vegetable gardens or home gardens) can be handed in at the Ludwigsburg District Office, Agriculture Department (Hindenburgstraße 30/1).
Help wanted: Advice center covers costs for humus analysis
The costs for the basic nutrient analysis are borne by the participants themselves (12.50 euros net/sample), the costs for the humus analysis are borne by the Fruit and Horticulture Advisory Service (maximum two samples per participant, depending on the total number of participants; further humus analyses are possible at your own expense for 12.50 euros net/sample). The advice center hopes to attract many participants.
