Dr. Bohn had "dismantled many barriers", the district administrator said, referring to his many fields of activity. "You have made it clear to all of us that accessibility is an important prerequisite for independent participation." Bohn not only championed social issues during his five years as the Ludwigsburg district's municipal representative for the disabled, but also in many other professional and voluntary roles. At the Baden-Württemberg State Employment Office, the Württemberg-Hohenzollern State Welfare Association and the Baden-Württemberg Municipal Association for Youth and Social Affairs, among others, Bohn has shown that accessibility must not only be lived in connection with people with disabilities, but must actually be implemented, especially against the background of an ageing population. According to the District Administrator, Bohn filled the newly created role with life and was always a trustworthy contact for citizens and local authorities in the district.
In addition to his five years as the district's municipal representative for the disabled, Bohn has been involved in numerous associations in Ludwigsburg for over 40 years and has volunteered in a variety of ways, for example with the Ludwigsburg Tenants' Association and the Workers' Welfare Association. Bohn founded the tenants' association over 30 years ago together with six colleagues and has been campaigning for affordable housing ever since.
Bohn was also active in local politics for decades. He was a member of the local council in Ludwigsburg for 33 years, including 25 years as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. From 2010 to 2019, he was a member of the district council, where he also championed social policy issues and the interests of the elderly, the sick and people with disabilities. He was involved in the social committee, the youth welfare committee, the culture and school committee and the supervisory board of the clinics with great expertise.
The district council has decided to award Dr. Eckart Bohn the District Medal of Merit. It is awarded to individuals who have rendered outstanding services to the district, particularly in the political, economic, social or cultural fields. It is the district's highest award.
