The period following the diagnosis of dementia is often experienced as a crisis by those affected. Existing
impairments in short-term memory, concentration or orientation
cause great uncertainty. Existing resources and strengths are often no longer
recognized.
In this situation, regular exchanges with a trained volunteer can be helpful
. The conversation is already seen as the decisive help, as it allows thoughts
to develop, wishes to become clear, but also fears or anxieties to be expressed.
The trained volunteers are personal contacts in a familiar environment who can
take the time to build up a relationship of trust and start a conversation.
The direction of the conversations is always set by those affected themselves.
The contact at eye level and the volunteers' knowledge of dementia-related changes
provide security and create an atmosphere that encourages and strengthens, self-efficacy and
independence can be felt again.
Familiar contacts and structures are taken into account as important components of the social network
, but people with dementia decide for themselves who from their environment should be brought into the
boat, for example in joint conversations with family, friends or
club colleagues.
On this afternoon at the district administration office, interested parties have the opportunity to get to know the volunteers of the
support group, receive important information about the service and also find out
how they can get involved.
Registration is not necessary, but if you have any questions, please contact Martina
Glock and Sibylle Kostron, Tel. 07141 144-69971, Ludwigsburg District Office.
The support group for people with dementia is committed to engaging in public discussions with people with dementia
and is networked in the district of Ludwigsburg with the advice service
of the care support points for people diagnosed with dementia.
