Surprise during question time

As a surprise guest at the municipal council meeting on Monday evening, District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier awarded Mayor Dr. Jörg Frauhammer the state badge of honour for his voluntary services.

Two men stand facing each other, smiling, while exchanging a certificate. One man, dressed in black, holds the certificate with both hands, while the other man, wearing a suit and tie, presents the document. The background features wood-paneled walls, suggesting a formal setting.

The district administrator was first asked to comment on a topical issue. "To be honest, I'm very glad that I wasn't invited to your local council today to answer complaints and questions about the waste situation in the district," said Allgaier. The district administrator had chosen a much nicer occasion for his visit, namely the awarding of the state badge of honor to Mayor Dr. Jörg Frauhammer, who until then had no idea of the surprise.

However, Frauhammer did not receive the award as mayor, but because of his many years of voluntary work, primarily in the local music association, but also in many other areas. As an active clarinettist - an instrument that the district administrator also plays and greatly appreciates - Frauhammer has been associated with MV Gemmrigheim for 45 years. However, his commitment to the Gemmrigheim Music Association goes far beyond the usual music-making. In 1978, at the age of 14, he became an instructor, later youth leader / youth chairman, from 1989 to 1993 he was vice conductor and from 1999 to 2019 he was 1st chairman of the Gemmrigheim Musikverein for a total of 20 years. "During this time, you have developed, shaped, expanded and advanced the Musikverein. It is invaluable - especially in this day and age, when fewer and fewer people are willing to take on responsibility for society, for the general public," said the District Administrator in his laudatory speech.

Even after his election as mayor in 2018, Frauhammer continued to support the music association. Until 2000, he also held a leading position in the public relations division of the Ludwigsburg District Wind Music Association, founded the Gemmrigheim cultural initiative together with the municipality's cultural committee in 2006 and brought prominent cultural figures such as Wieland Backes, Vincent Klink and Susanne Heydenreich to Gemmrigheim. His 28 years on the municipal council, including 13 years as deputy mayor, do not count towards the badge of honor because there is a separate award for this.

"I think now at the latest, ladies and gentlemen, dear members of the municipal council, it is clear why Dr. Jörg Frauhammer has more than exceeded the requirements for the state badge of honour," stated the district administrator, who "with great pleasure and great respect for you and your extraordinary commitment" awarded the badge of honour of the state of Baden-Württemberg to Dr. Jörg Frauhammer.

Info: The state badge of honour is donated by the Minister President and is awarded for many years of voluntary work in associations or organizations with cultural or social goals. It is awarded to people who have rendered outstanding services to the community. A basic requirement is at least 15 years of voluntary work.
