Dates for firewood auctions in the Ludwigsburg district

Firewood is now in high season, with firewood auctions taking place throughout the district over the next few weeks. Over 6000 solid cubic meters of regionally produced firewood will be offered here with short travel and transport routes. A list of all auction dates can be found on the district's homepage at www.landkreis-ludwigsburg.de/de/umwelt-technik/forsten/brennholz/.

With wood as a fuel, local forests offer a regional and ecological alternative to heating oil and other fossil fuels. In the forests in the Ludwigsburg district, firewood is produced sustainably and in compliance with very high forestry standards. One of the major advantages of burning wood is its climate neutrality. When wood is burned, only as much carbon dioxide is released as was previously absorbed during its growth.

In order to take full advantage of all the benefits, the firewood must first and foremost be dry enough. Sufficient drying is achieved by storing the wood properly and long enough. Softwood should dry for at least one year, hardwood for two years. The smaller the wood is split and sawn before storage, the better. It is therefore best to cut it into pieces ready for the stove and then store it in an airy but covered place.

The forestry department of the district administration appeals to all firewood customers to observe the regulations on personal protective equipment. Wearing personal protective equipment can prevent more serious injuries in the event of an accident. Personal protective equipment should consist of a helmet with ear and face protection, cut-resistant trousers and gloves, and outer clothing in signal colors can further increase safety. You should also make sure that at least two people are present when cutting firewood in the forest.
