Five companies from the Ludwigsburg district are combining economic and ecological goals by participating in this year's Klimafit project round. In addition to the Huober Brezel company, the district's waste recycling company (AVL), the Eugen Mayer company from Kirchheim am Neckar, the Kleeblatt nursing homes and the Erligheim-based Staiger company are also part of the company network this year. At the kick-off in the premises of the Huober company in Erdmannhausen, the project managers were able to familiarize themselves with the next steps and start the mutual exchange.
"The response to our Klimafit project has been very positive and we were once again able to attract well-known and diverse companies to participate this year," emphasizes District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier and continues: "These companies are committed to climate protection and take on responsibility in an exemplary manner." Over a period of around nine months, the participating companies learn how to draw up a greenhouse gas balance sheet to identify the largest sources of emissions. Under the expert guidance of the consultancy firm Arqum, the participants are familiarized with the methods required for this, for example during an on-site appointment with the consultants. In joint workshops, the companies also share their experiences with the methods and learn which ways of reducing greenhouse gas emissions are particularly effective.
Many companies have set themselves ambitious targets
The reasons for participating in the Klimafit project vary: minimizing climate-damaging emissions, reducing costs and being successful on the market as a modern and environmentally conscious company are the most common motivations. Many companies are highly self-motivated and have set themselves ambitious goals that they now want to tackle. However, the increasingly stringent legal requirements are also an important motivation, as drawing up a greenhouse gas balance sheet is helpful for increasingly necessary sustainability reporting. And last but not least, it is a good basis for developing measures to avoid emissions.
The project is in line with the Ludwigsburg district's climate protection concept and also contributes to the strategic goals of the district's economic development program. In 2021 and 2023, the district of Ludwigsburg and its project partner, the city of Ludwigsburg, were already able to implement climate-fit project rounds with more than ten companies. Participation is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment. However, the participating companies also make their own contribution to the financing and provide human resources.
