Donations handed over at the health department: employees and visitors to the district administration office support HIV prevention and AIDS patients in Tanzania

Dr. Rangwich-Fellendorf, Deputy Head of the Ludwigsburg District Health Department, recently presented a symbolic cheque for 1,600 euros to paediatrician Doris Maxheimer-Fehrenbach for the project "Strengthening the immune system in people with HIV" in the Nkasi district in Tanzania. The former employee of the Ludwigsburg health department has been volunteering for many years to provide medical and health care for people in Tanzania.

Five people stand together in a room, showcasing a large donation check for €1,600. One woman holds the check prominently. A dog sits at the feet of another person. The background features a large mural of wildlife, including giraffes and tropical plants.

At the donation handover from left: Dr. Uschi Traub and Dr. Ulrike Rangwich-Fellendorf (both health department of the district administration office), Doris Maxheimer-Fehrenbach (former employee of the health department), Pia Hoch (staff council of the district administration office), Marius Gäßler (health department) and in the foreground dog Pablo.

Initiator Dr. Uschi Traub and coordinator Marius Gäßler from the health department as well as Pia Hoch from the staff council of the district administration office were present at the cheque handover. The recipient of the donation is Dr. Benjamin Chota from the public health service in Nkasi, who manages the local project and is committed to improving the quality of life of HIV-positive people.

The donations come from citizens of the Ludwigsburg district who have donated at various events and during HIV consultation hours for HIV-positive people and for prevention work. In addition, a fundraising campaign with the support of the staff council as part of World Aids Day 2024 among the employees of the Ludwigsburg District Office made a contribution to the project.

Donation supports the commitment and work of local people

With this donation, the district administration office is helping to support local actors in the Nkasi district in Tanzania who are actively involved in HIV prevention and supporting those affected. Their services include awareness campaigns, training for HIV testing, return to treatment for dropouts and transportation services to bring the inhabitants of the 40 villages on Lake Tanganyika to the clinics. Maxheimer-Fehrenbach has already visited the project several times in person and was very impressed by the commitment and work of the local people.

Anyone interested in the project can contact Dr. Uschi Traub from the Health Department of the Ludwigsburg District Office on 07141 144-2520 or by e-mail at gesundheitsfoerderung[at]landkreis-ludwigsburg.de.
