Donations handed over at the health department for AIDS patients in Tanzania - Support for public health service in the Nkasi district - Donations come from citizens of the Ludwigsburg district

Dr. Karlin Stark, Head of the Health Department of the Ludwigsburg District Council, recently presented Doris Maxheimer-Fehrenbach with a cheque for 1673 euros. Maxheimer-Fehrenbach is a former employee of the Ludwigsburg Health Department, a pediatrician and has been volunteering for years to provide health care for children in Africa. Dr. Benjamin Chota, from the public health service of the Nkasi District in Tanzania, is the recipient of the donation for the project "Strengthen immunity system to PLHIV" (strengthening the immune system of people living with HIV) in the Nkasi District.

Four women stand together holding a large check made out to "Nkasi District Council" for €1,673. They appear to be in a bright indoor setting, smiling. One of the women is holding a stuffed animal, adding a friendly touch to the scene.

Handing over the donation cheque (from left): Ute Nethe (Health Promotion and Health Planning employee at the District Office), Dr. Karlin Stark (Head of Health at the District Office), Doris Maxhammer-Fehrenbach (paediatrician and volunteer for the health care of children in Africa) and Dr. Uschi Traub (Head of Health Promotion and Health Planning at the District Office).

The donations come from citizens of the Ludwigsburg district who have made donations for AIDS patients and for prevention work at events and during HIV consultation hours.

Donation enables several useful measures

The following measures are planned with this donation: Travel allowance for 150 HIV-positive people to get to the health centers where they receive anti-retroviral medication and are regularly examined. In addition, 2750 people can be reached through educational events and training of multipliers in 40 villages along Lake Tanganyika. A further 148 patients who have interrupted their treatment are to continue their treatment with the help of the donation.

"With this fundraising campaign, we can see exactly where the money is going and are delighted that so many people can be supported in the fight against HIV and AIDS with relatively small individual donations," says Dr. Karlin Stark, Head of Health.
