The figures are staggering: In 2025, approximately 673 million people—primarily in the Global South—suffered from hunger. More than 3 billion people worldwide cannot afford a regular, healthy diet. Every 13 seconds, a child dies as a result of hunger. 22.3% of all children worldwide are chronically undernourished. The causes of this are complex and, in some cases, reinforce one another: poverty, wars, conflicts, and, increasingly, water scarcity and climate change.
Nearly 320 students participated in this year’s charity run
The Robert Franck School is one of about 150 schools in Germany that is committed to a more just world through the humanitarian and development organization “Action Against Hunger.” At this year’s charity run, nearly 320 students—as well as teachers—took part, completing the nearly two-kilometer loop on the Römerhügel. With each lap, the runners collected donations sponsored by training companies, parents, or the teaching staff. Half of the total amount raised goes to the “Schools Against Hunger” program, and the other half to other projects run by the Student Council (SMV).
Students raised around 5,000 euros
The run was organized and hosted by SMV volunteers and the liaison teachers Bilal Chaudhry and Dejan Mikic. Afterward, they gave an enthusiastic summary: Together, all participating runners covered a distance of 596 km. In the process, they raised around 5,000 € in donations! The school’s top runners—Adrian Göktas (WG11/1), Luca Vogel (WG11/1), and Patrick Mabika (W1KS1X)—each covered nearly nine kilometers in thirty minutes. Due to the high temperatures, it made sense to run only in the early morning. And in addition to the event’s charitable purpose, the refreshments afterward also left the participating school community feeling good.
