Behind this campaign is a fundraising campaign. The proceeds drawn by the mayor over the ribbon go to the Kornwestheim bear family and the proceeds from the district administrator go to the Kornwestheim food bank. The initiator is REWE owner Ömer Demirhan. "Especially during the Advent season, we want to think about people who don't have it easy in life and do good with campaigns like this," he said. The campaign had already been carried out a few years ago. Demirhan quickly decided on his fundraising goals when he was able to see the Kornwestheim bear family for himself at the open day. It was clear to him that this offer had to be supported. "The close cooperation with the food bank and the knowledge of how many donations and support are needed here also inspired and encouraged us to repeat the campaign back then," says the store owner. Contact was quickly established with the mayor of Kornwestheim and the district administrator of Ludwigsburg, and so the two politicians found themselves at the checkout of the REWE store that day.
After a short briefing, Lauxmann and Allgaier sat at the checkout for half an hour and scanned the customers' purchases. They were supported by two REWE store employees to ensure that everything went smoothly at the checkout, and four footballers from the second team of SV Salamander Kornwestheim 1894 e. V. ensured that everything ran smoothly at the checkout by bagging the customers' purchases.
Mayor Nico Lauxmann collected a total of EUR 1,173.59 and District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier EUR 1,196.43. Owner Ömer Demirhan increased the amount to EUR 1,300 each, and the two officials rounded up to EUR 1,500 each on behalf of the city of Kornwestheim and the district of Ludwigsburg. The donation cheques were accepted by Jaqueline Avagliano and Franz Scheuermann on behalf of the Kornwestheim food bank and Sonja Marhart, educational director at the Kornwestheim Bear Family.
"I am delighted to be part of this special fundraising campaign. The support of the citizens has helped us to financially support the bear family and the Kornwestheim food bank. Many thanks to everyone who took part and showed that Kornwestheim sticks together and stands up for each other," said Lord Mayor Nico Lauxmann.
