SC Bietigheim-Bissingen Steelers e.V. in conversation: Child protection concept creates "a culture of respect"

There are around 800 clubs and associations with child and youth work in the Ludwigsburg district, around a quarter of which have already concluded an agreement with the Ludwigsburg district office to ensure child protection. SC Bietigheim-Bissingen Steelers e.V. has such a concept and has already been awarded the "Child Protection Quality Mark". Christian Laier is responsible for youth work at the club and explains why the issue is so important to the club.

The image features a circular seal with a stylized figure at the center, symbolizing protection and care. Surrounding the figure are the words "Landkreis Ludwigsburg" and "Qualitätsmerkmal Kinderschutz," indicating a quality mark for child protection in the Ludwigsburg district.

The skates glide crisply across the ice as the children chase after the puck. Cheers and laughter fill the ice rink, but in the midst of this playful light-heartedness lurks an often invisible danger: what happens when the sport that promotes trust and team spirit also becomes a source of abuse? How can we ensure that the little ones are protected on and off the ice?

Christian Laier is part of the youth management of SC Bietigheim-Bissingen Steelers e.V. and deals with these relevant issues. One of his most important tasks: Generating and maintaining the child protection concept at the club. "A good child protection concept is extremely important for us because it enables us to fulfill our duty of care for the children entrusted to us and protect them from violence and abuse," he explains. "We are also creating a culture of respect and openness in which the children can feel comfortable with us."

Quality mark to be awarded at the Child Protection Day on November 23, 2024

The association selects the caregivers and obtains an extended police clearance certificate. In 2021, the club drew up a child protection concept, coordinated it with the Ludwigsburg sports district and finally received approval from the Ludwigsburg district office - and thus also the "Child Protection Quality Mark" seal of approval.

The award will be presented to the public for the first time at the Child Protection Day on November 23, 2024. The symposium offers an extensive program of lectures, workshops and world café stations. The planned workshops will cover topics such as participation, feedback methods and dealing with past incidents. Parallel to the programme, there will be information stands where organizations such as the Kinderschutzbund and Silberdistel will be represented.

Funding through the "Gemeinsam engagiert in BW II" program

The symposium is funded by the "Gemeinsam engagiert in Baden-Württemberg II" ("Committed together in Baden-Württemberg II") funding programof the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration from state funds approved by the Baden-Württemberg state parliament.

Interested parties can register for the symposium until November 14. Further information on the symposium and the child protection quality mark can be found on the district's website: https://www.landkreis-ludwigsburg.de/KiSchu-im-Verein
