Regional decision in the 2021/22 reading competition - District Administrator Allgaier: Reading is a core skill for life

The jury has decided: Melia Künzel (West Region), Maximilian El Selman (South Region) and Lilli Demirer (North Region) are the best readers in the Ludwigsburg district. They are therefore among the 555 best readers in Germany who will now go on to compete at district level. A total of 42 children took part in this year's regional reading competition in the Ludwigsburg district. The regional round of the 63rd German Book Trade Reading Competition was once again organized by the Ludwigsburg District Office. "Reading is a core competence for life, which the district is happy to promote emphatically," says District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier.

As in the previous year, the competition responded flexibly to the pandemic conditions so that it could continue despite coronavirus: Until February 14, children were able to submit their entries via the competition's video portal for the regional round, after which the expert jury, consisting of five members each for the West, South and North regions, had access to the online gallery to evaluate the entries. This was based on reading technique, interpretation and selection of text passages.

The 63rd Reading Contest of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association is one of the largest nationwide competitions for children of all school types in the sixth grade. Around 6,000 sixth-grade pupils take part in the regional competitions in cities and districts across Germany. With around 480,000 participants, the reading competition, which was launched in 1959, is one of the oldest and largest school reading competitions in Germany. This means that the competition has almost reached the level of a pre-corona year.

It is organized by the Book Culture and Reading Promotion Foundation of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association and is held under the patronage of the Federal President. School winners, district winners, county winners, district winners, state winners and finally the national winner are determined. The final will take place on June 21, 2022 in Berlin. The competition aims to spread enthusiasm for books to the public, inspire a love of reading and strengthen children's reading skills. The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth sponsors the reading competition.

The stages lead from school to city/district, district and state level to the national final, which will take place in Berlin on June 21, 2022.

All participants will receive a certificate of participation and a book ("Das Universum ist verdammt groß und supermystisch" by Lisa Krusche) from the Börsenverein, a power bank from the Kreissparkasse and a book voucher worth five euros from the district. The district winners will also be rewarded with a winning book ("Calypsos Irrfahrt" by Cornelia Franz) from the Börsenverein and a 15 euro book voucher from the district. The second and third place winners will also receive book vouchers from the district for a further ten and five euros respectively.
