Dr. Stefan Weiß, Head of the Simulation Center and Senior Emergency Physician at RKH Kliniken, gave a guided tour of the RKH Simulation Center in Vaihingen an der Enz. The simulation center of the RKH clinics, which has been in existence for three years, is a training and further education facility for medical specialists and assistants from all over southern Germany. Staff can be trained on state-of-the-art patient simulators in an area of 700 square meters. The facility is currently being expanded at a cost of 2.5 million euros to include a model hospital with a hospital room and nurses' room covering 1,000 square meters. In future, it will be possible to practise procedures on a hospital ward there.
District President Reimer was impressed by the simulation center: "It is important that medical staff are well trained," he said. The RKH clinics are on the right track with their concept, said District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier. And RKH Managing Director Prof. Dr. Jörg Martin emphasized that doctors and nursing staff can be brought together as a team in the simulation center.
The RKH Simulation Center is housed in the premises of a surgical area and parts of a ward of the former Vaihingen hospital. As the operating theater of the former Vaihingen hospital, which was used until 2015, has been largely preserved, it is possible to practice in a real environment equipped with the latest AV technology and state-of-the-art medical technology. There are different simulation rooms for different situations, such as "RTW" or "living room". Next year, 250 courses are planned at the simulation center. Around 2,500 doctors, nurses, carers, paramedics and emergency assistants can then be trained.
