Sweet thank you for all-weather cyclists
For the second time, employees who cycle to work even in winter were honored at the Ludwigsburg District Office. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier thanked the all-weather cyclists with a greeting card and chocolate for their commitment to the environment and health.
The occasion for the sweet thank you was the international Winter Bike to Work Day, which is celebrated every year in February and aims to raise awareness of cycling as a year-round form of mobility. You don't have to look far for all-weather cyclists in the district administration: Despite the rain, the cycling officers counted almost 90 bicycles at the parking facilities around the district administration office on Wednesday. Each one was presented with a thank-you card and chocolate.
District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier handed out some of them: "We would like to thank all those who are not deterred from cycling to work in the morning, even in unfriendly weather. This is not only climate-friendly, but also healthy and therefore makes us doubly happy as an employer." The district administration is constantly striving to expand the cycling facilities at the district office. Last year, for example, a new bicycle parking facility was put into operation and more are planned. In addition, new company pedelecs were purchased and the booking system simplified so that more business trips can be made by bike.
The installation of a new RegioRadStuttgart rental station and a bike repair column in front of the district hall in Hindenburgstraße are also part of the administration's cycling offensive. During a three-week exhibition in the fall of 2021, employees were able to find out about all the cycling options, get tips on switching to environmentally friendly modes of transport and had the opportunity to test the company pedelecs. "We were able to achieve some important improvements for cycling colleagues last year and now hope that their numbers will increase even further," hopes cycling officer Madeleine Janker.

Six new RadSERVICE points in the district
With the support of the RadKULTUR state initiative, the district of Ludwigsburg is creating six more RadSERVICE stations, which can be used to quickly repair minor bike breakdowns on the road. This brings the number of repair stations in the district to over 30.
The chain jumps out, the tire is flat or the saddle wobbles - these are the kinds of breakdowns that can put an abrupt end to the most beautiful bike tour or daily commute, at least if there are no tools to hand to quickly fix the bike. For some time now, districts and local authorities have been providing a remedy with freely accessible repair stations, so-called RadSERVICE points.
These are equipped with all kinds of tools such as Allen keys, tire levers, screwdrivers and much more, as well as a holding device for jacking up the bike. The air pump is equipped with a pressure gauge and is suitable for all common valves - so the tire pressure of baby carriages, trailers or wheelchairs can also be regulated.
Over the past two years, the district of Ludwigsburg has been supported with a so-called large funding package from the state initiative RadKULTUR to promote cycling. As part of the program, the district focused on repair stations for its district municipalities, among other things. Nine stations were already purchased in 2020, and another six were added at the end of 2021.
One of these is now located in front of the district administration office in Ludwigsburg. It is located directly opposite the new RegioRadStuttgart station and in the immediate vicinity of the bus stop. The charging station for electric cars is also not far away. "The forecourt of the district hall is increasingly developing into a holistic mobility station," said Dr. Christian Sußner, Head of Environment, Technology and Construction for the district of Ludwigsburg, who officially opened the station. "We are delighted to be able to make attractive offers to those who use environmentally friendly means of transport."
The new stations will soon be installed in Bönnigheim, Freudental, Großbottwar and Ingersheim. In Murr, the new RadSERVICE point has been located at Hermannsplatz since the beginning of November. This brings the total number of repair stations in the district to over 30. 15 of these were financed by the district and state, while the others were set up by the local authorities themselves - partly with the support of RadKULTUR, partly completely independently - or even by private groups.
