With the European Men's Football Championship and the European elections in June, we have two major European events to keep us busy in the first half of 2024. But what makes living, working and living in Europe so special? What differences, but also similarities, can we discover in Europe? The Schiller-vhs is exploring these questions with its annual focus. The lecture "European Elections 2024 - Take an active part in deciding" on April 24, 2024 in Murr will highlight the role of citizens in the election of the European Parliament and take an in-depth look at the institution. Before the European Championship, soccer fans will have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart and the ESA Satellite Control Center in Darmstadt. The Schiller-vhs also offers European study trips, for example to the world's largest particle accelerator CERN in Geneva and the beautiful city of Bergamo in Italy. There are also special offers in the areas of food and drink and languages to celebrate the diversity of Europe and make it accessible.
Special events, lectures and courses outside of the annual focus
The Schiller-vhs also offers very special events, lectures and courses outside of the annual focus.
In the general education department, the portfolio of courses on artificial intelligence (AI) will be expanded and, for example, "AI systems in everyday life" or "AI-controlled image creation and editing with Adobe Firefly" will be examined. There are also many guided tours on regional history, consumer issues and a new sign language course in Vaihingen an der Enz as well as a look behind the scenes at some companies, for example Ravensburger, ALB-GOLD, Roche Diagnostics and many more.
There is also a lot to discover in the Department of Culture and Design in spring. There is a special day trip to the Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, a guided tour behind the scenes of the Staatstheater Stuttgart with an optional visit to the opera and an art trip to Aschaffenburg, the "Bavarian Nice on the Main". Those who want to get creative themselves can, for example, felt vegetarian seat skins, tailor their own medieval garment or get creative in the field of sculpture with origami and folded money gifts. Particularly noteworthy is the exhibition #11 of the "Art in the Kreishaus" series, where works with graphic elements by Claudia Fuchs, Simon Löchner, Dominik Stelzner and Nataliya Gurevich will be on display from March 21 to May 2, 2024 under the title "GRAFIKA".
The health section will once again be particularly diverse. In addition to the focus on seasonal cuisine, such as "Asparagus in all its variations", there will be a particular emphasis on DIY. You can also learn how to make your own pasta or chocolates. Ayurvedic cuisine will also have a very special focus in spring 2024 with four events. If you want to keep fit, the energetic exercises of "Vitality Training" in Schwieberdingen are just right for you. Two special courses are offered for women: "Kickboxing for women" and "Self-defense with Krav Maga". The most comprehensive knowledge in the field of relaxation, mindfulness and stress management is provided by an eight-week course entitled "More quality of life and resilience through mindfulness (MBSR)", which will take place in Asperg. Young people can get to know various relaxation techniques in the "Chill out - learn to relax" course and thus get through school and everyday life more easily.
Lots of new language courses at all levels
In spring 2024, there will once again be a large number of new language courses at all levels. For example, you can be inspired by an "Arabic compact course" or "Chinese taster course" or expand your knowledge with "Business English" at various levels. Less commonly learned languages such as Japanese, Croatian or Swedish are also on offer again.
In addition to artificial intelligence applications, the IT department is once again offering courses, workshops and events at basic and advanced levels for software and hardware applications. The secure use of smartphones for online banking, image editing on smartphones and tablets and social media applications are just a few examples. For children and young people, the Schiller-vhs is offering very special courses on programming with Turtle, Scratch or Python in spring.
The Marbach Forum Zeitgeschehen, which will take place on February 21 with the topic "Sustainable Cities", is also worth a special mention. In times of climate change and resource scarcity, urban planning and sustainable city life are presenting us with ever greater challenges. At the Marbacher Forum Zeitgeschehen, four proven experts in this field will have their say and enable an exchange on all aspects of sustainable urban development and coexistence.
