"Product diversity at a high level": These are the best fruit brandies from the district

On Thursday, November 9, department head Andreas Eschbach presented a total of 33 certificates to the winners of this year's fruit brandy awards as part of the Spätlingsmarkt. By awarding prizes to the best fruit brandies, the district of Ludwigsburg aims to support and promote the preservation and care of the orchards that characterize the district.

A large group of diverse individuals, both men and women, stand together in a celebratory pose, smiling and raising glasses. They are dressed in various outfits, with a few holding certificates. The setting appears to be an indoor event with tables and plants in the background.

"Once again, we have achieved amazing results in the fruit brandy awards for our district brandies, whiskies, gins and rums," said Andreas Eschbach, head of department, in his welcoming address. "The distillers in the district know what they have to do to keep improving quality." Eschbach was also impressed by the "variety of products at a high level".

At the award ceremony in the atrium, the head of department also paid tribute to the efforts of the small distillers from the Ludwigsburg district to achieve the highest quality. During the ceremony, he appropriately presented the "schnapps number" of 33 certificates among connoisseurs, enthusiasts and producers of regional fruit brandies. He emphasized that the fruit distillers also make a major contribution to the preservation of the cultural landscape and biodiversity by maintaining the orchards.

"Incredible variety": 86 distillates faced the jury

The products that took part in this award were subjected to sensory testing by trained and certified experts, i.e. the smell and taste were clearly described and evaluated. This year, a total of seven tasters tested the 86 distillates submitted. 33 distillates were awarded a score of 18 to 20 points, the highest score "It is incredible what variety the district has to offer - from orchard fruit, wild fruits such as rowanberries, wild raspberries or rose hips, various pomace to gin, whisky and rum," said Eschbach.

To be eligible for the award, both the fruit and the distillery had to come from the district. This time, there were eight certificates in the "Whisky and Gin" field and an award was also presented for the rum category.

This year, the two distilleries of Andreas Stiegler and Steffen Seitz, who shared first place last year, took first and second place. The overall winner was Andreas Stiegler with his fruit brandy "Apfel-Golden-Delicious Eichenfass". Steffen Seitz took second place with his "Plum brandy from the mulberry barrel". Third place went to the Vollmer winery with its "Vogelbeere".

Head of Department Eschbach hands over a donation of 5,000 euros to the association Gemeinsam e.V.

Following the award ceremony, Eschbach handed over the donation of 5,000 euros from the stand operators to the Gemeinsam e.V. association for people with physical and multiple disabilities in the Ludwigsburg district. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier had rounded this up.

"Our association is an association of families with children and adults with physical and multiple disabilities as well as supporters in the district of Ludwigsburg. Our aim is to provide mutual support and to jointly represent the interests of affected people and their relatives. We are committed to the self-determination and inclusion of people with a disability," explained Petra Nicklas, first chairwoman of the association. The donation supports the association in its mission to help families with severely disabled children to lead a fulfilling life.
