The district is significantly undersupplied with air rescue services at night
According to the experts at RKH Gesundheit, the North Württemberg area, and therefore also the district, is currently significantly undersupplied with air rescue services at night. This means that in the case of time-critical injuries and illnesses, the care times required for optimum treatment are exceeded to a not inconsiderable extent, especially at night. This is due in particular to the long transport times caused by the ground-based rescue service. Fast treatment times are particularly relevant for severe traumatic brain injury and polytrauma. The success of medical treatment for such injuries depends largely on how quickly the patient receives adequate medical care at a specialized center.
Emergency physicians have a high level of clinical expertise
The RKH Clinic in Ludwigsburg is one of the maximum care clinics that treats the most seriously injured in the North Württemberg region. The emergency medical staffing of the Christoph 51 rescue helicopter is also provided by experienced anaesthesiology specialists with additional qualifications in emergency medicine and intensive care medicine from the RKH Clinic Ludwigsburg. These emergency doctors have a high level of clinical expertise and specialize in the medical care of the seriously ill and seriously injured. From the Pattonville site, not only large areas of northern Württemberg can be reached by rescue helicopter in an adequate time, but also the majority of northern Baden and eastern Württemberg.
168 primary missions per year estimated
The structural report on air rescue in Baden-Württemberg assumes 168 night-time primary missions per year. This corresponds to the experience at other rescue helicopter locations that operate 24/7. It should be noted that the mission figures relate to the "night flying period", which refers to the period between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise. This means that the majority of missions in winter are expected in the late afternoon and evening hours. According to the report, an average of 76 call-outs per year are to be expected between midnight and 7 a.m., which means that around one to two call-outs per week are likely to take place during the "civilian" night time.
Common goal: helping people in life-threatening situations as quickly as possible
In a letter, the district administrator appealed to the mayors and local councillors of the participating towns of Kornwestheim and Remseck to take these aspects into account when making their decisions and to jointly pursue the goal of providing the best possible care to people in life-threatening situations as quickly as possible.
RP decides on application
The Stuttgart Regional Council, as the responsible authority, is currently examining an application to expand flight operations at the Pattonville special landing site for rescue helicopters and civil air traffic. A noise report had already shown that any limit values would not be exceeded. The RP will make the final decision on the application to extend the operating times of the rescue helicopter.
