The film "One Life" tells the story of the British Nicholas Winton (played by Oscar winner Sir Anthony Hopkins, among others), who organized the rescue of 669 children from Czechoslovakia shortly before the Second World War. He repeatedly reproaches himself for not having done more. It is only when he unexpectedly meets some survivors 50 years later on the BBC television show "That's Life!" that memories come flooding back. He begins to come to terms with the guilt and grief he has carried around with him for five decades. The film has won the Palm Springs International Film Festival Audience Award and the Cinema for Peace Award, among others.
The price of €8 includes the movie, coffee/tea and pastries. Carola Benkert and Dr. Uschi Traub from the health department of the district administration will be providing information on the topic of memory at the Central Filmtheater Ludwigsburg (Arsenalstr. 4). Anyone interested can test their knowledge in a quiz and win a prize.
The event is a cooperation between the Stadtseniorenrat Ludwigsburg e.V., the Central Filmtheater Ludwigsburg and the health department.
Health department informs: Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia
According to figures from the German Alzheimer Society, almost 1.8 million people in Germany will be living with dementia by the end of 2021. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause. Around 440,000 people were newly diagnosed with dementia in 2021, and demographic change means that there are likely to be even more new cases in the future.
Dementia is the decline and loss of cognitive abilities, for example in the areas of attention, orientation, memory, language, motor skills and the ability to socialize. This process is often gradual until the loss of everyday skills becomes noticeable. What can people do to have a positive influence on their memory performance? As is so often the case, a balanced diet, exercise, reducing negative stress and social activities are the key.
