Fruit brandy award ceremony and donation presentation at the Spätlingsmarkt

District Administrator Dr. Rainer Haas presented a total of 32 certificates to the winners of this year's fruit brandy awards at the Spätlingsmarkt on Friday. "There are no more random products in the production of fruit brandies," District Administrator Haas began his welcome address. "The production of fruit brandies has become a science: Careful work, control of the cultivation, harvesting fully ripe fruit in several stages and processing with high-quality distilling equipment once again produce a first-class result this year," Haas was pleased to say.

A group of diverse people stands together, smiling and holding glasses in a celebratory gesture. The scene suggests a festive atmosphere, possibly at a community event or gathering, with many individuals engaged and looking towards the camera.
Three individuals stand together in an indoor setting. The central person holds a small box while wearing a purple scarf. A banner behind them details a children’s hospice service, emphasizing care and support. The atmosphere suggests an event related to community service and assistance.

The 2019 certificate award ceremony in the district hall extension of the new building was once again attended by connoisseurs, enthusiasts and producers of regional fruit brandies, who were eagerly awaiting the results of the test. Two commissions with a total of six tasters tested the distillates. The commission examined 75 brandies, 32 of which were awarded a score of 18 to 20 points, the highest score. The award-winning brandies are once again available at the stand of the North Württemberg Small Distillers and Fruit Distillers Association. "I am also pleased that more and more of the experienced producers of fruit brandies from the district are trying their hand at whisky and gin. Four certificates were also awarded in this segment, an increase of 20 percent compared to the previous year," said Haas.

Vera Bullinger, the distillate queen of North Württemberg, welcomed those present and was particularly pleased that this year the best fruit brandy in the district came from the production of Sabine Klatt from Großbottwar, who submitted her brandies to the fruit brandy award for the first time. With her "Tresterbrand aus Muskattrollinger" she shares first place with Gunter Hekel with the "Mispelbrand im Kastanienfass gereift". "The production of a fruit brandy requires a great deal of specialist knowledge and a sure instinct," emphasizes Bullinger and calls on even more women to take part in distilling. She herself grew up in agriculture and, in addition to her nutrition and supply management studies at the Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences in Bavaria, is still training to become a distiller at the State Teaching and Research Institute in Weinsberg until 2021, so that she can then continue the tradition at home with good knowledge and a clear conscience.

Afterwards, District Administrator Dr. Haas handed over the donation from the stand operators to Sabine Horn, palliative care specialist and office manager of the Ecumenical Hospice Initiative in the Ludwigsburg district. The donation will be used for the children's hospice. The outpatient children's and youth hospice service is part of the Ökumenische Hospizinitiative im Landkreis Ludwigsburg e.V., which was founded as a non-profit association by Caritas, Diakonie, Karlshöhe, the Protestant and Catholic Deanery of Ludwigsburg.

"We support families in the Ludwigsburg district in which either a child or a parent is seriously ill, dying or has already died. The topic of dying and death throws the whole family off balance and life perspectives are shattered. In such extreme life situations, we dedicate ourselves individually to the sick child, parents, siblings and close relatives," says Sabine Horn, explaining the work of the service. District Administrator Dr. Haas was delighted to be able to hand over a donation of 3700 euros to the Ludwigsburg Ecumenical Children's Hospice Service. The majority of the donation came from the stall holders at the Spätlingsmarkt and around 300 euros from visitors to the Spätlingsmarkt.
