The new semester with around 1,600 courses, lectures and excursions starts on February 27. Registration is now open. In the spring/summer semester 2023, the Schiller-vhs is focusing on the topic of "Networked" in its program. On the one hand, networking refers to a technology-driven process, but on the other, it also refers to a social development that is changing our lives and the way we think.
Two main events will approach the topic from different perspectives: At the live hacking event on March 2 in Bietigheim-Bissingen, "the hackers" will highlight the security risks of digital networking and give tips on how to properly protect your data online. Against the backdrop of an increasingly networked and at the same time polarized society, Dunja Hayali will address the question "How do we want to live together?" on 23 June in Kornwestheim.
In total, the "Networked" focus in the 2023 summer semester includes over 100 courses from all subject areas. On three evenings in Marbach, the specially created course series "Networked in the home" will provide information about networking in your own home: from the internet, routers, Wi-Fi and smart homes to multimedia and streaming, the most important terms, technologies and areas of application will be explained and the products and requirements discussed. Courses on the online meeting platform Zoom, the project management tool Trello and the virtual private network VPN support participants in acquiring digital skills and understanding and using current trends. Courses on the safe and sensible use of YouTube, Facebook and Instagram teach participants how to use social media competently in a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected through new media. As part of the Xpert Business learning network, the Schiller-vhs offers certificate courses both online and on-site in Bietigheim-Bissingen and Marbach.
In 2023, the Marbach Forum Zeitgeschehen aims to appeal to a wider circle of interested listeners with a new, one-day event format. Experts will share their specialist knowledge with the audience in one afternoon on Friday, April 21: under the heading "Views into space", the focus will be on black holes, space-time, gravitational waves and the path to the moon, including a local reference to Marbach's famous researcher Tobias Mayer.
The Women's Info Days in the Ludwigsburg district from May 2 to 12 will focus on networking women and their lives. The Schiller-vhs is participating in the extensive program with twelve courses on the topics of family, career, finance, self-care and health especially for women.
The new online course "Family laughter" ensures a good mood in the family through the healing power of laughter. The new relaxation and exercise courses are suitable for participants of all ages: Meridian Qigong, Medical Yoga, ChiYoga, Sound Yoga and BreathWalk (the new yoga walking) pick up on current trends in the health sector and promote physical and mental well-being.
In the "Plastic design and arts and crafts" area, workshops on "redesigning children's doodles and waste paper" and "creative handicrafts combined with brain training and movement exercises" provide stimulating impulses. As part of the "Art in the District Hall" exhibition series, free art tours are offered and the exhibiting artists open their studios to visitors.
The interconnectedness of people and the environment is ever-present and is reflected in the extensive range of activities on offer in the "Sustainability" section: in a new online cooking course, participants learn how to ferment vegetables and take advantage of the benefits of regionality and preservation, especially in times of high food prices. The courses "Natural garden design" and "Environmentally friendly lighting" show how climate protection and energy saving can be easily implemented in everyday life. The lecture series "Value-oriented investments" shows what can be achieved with financial investments: That conventional investments often support child labor and the arms industry, but that there are sustainable, social and value-oriented alternatives.
The Schiller-vhs is also well networked in the district. Numerous collaborations with educational institutions, schools and local clubs make the program particularly diverse. In cooperation with the Marbach chess club, there is a chess course for children, young people and adults this semester. The "Safe and confident on the road with an e-scooter" driving safety training course is offered in collaboration with the Ludwigsburg district traffic watch. As part of the "Learning with a tailwind" project, schools cooperate with the Schiller Adult Education Centre to offer school courses in the areas of work and IT as well as education and learning content.
A variety of excursions and study trips lead beyond the borders of the district. A visit to the Rosenstein Castle Museum focuses on the topic of bionics, while new destinations for day trips include Baden-Baden with a look behind the scenes at SWR and Mannheim with a tour of Roche Diagnostics, combined with a visit to the Federal Garden Show. The highlight of the three-day study trip to Geneva is a guided tour of the famous CERN research laboratory. Another new addition to the program is a music trip to the Bregenz Festival to see Puccini's opera "Madame Butterfly" on the spectacular lake stage.
The printed program is available to pick up at numerous distribution points in the district's town halls, bookshops and many banks and is now available online at www.schiller-vhs.de. Information on all events can be obtained from the Schiller-vhs staff on 07141 144-2666. Registration is now possible: by telephone, online at www.schiller-vhs.de or by e-mail to info[at]schiller-vhs.de.
