New district administrator in the district of Zwickau

Carsten Michaelis (CDU) was elected as the new district last Sunday as the new district administrator in the district of Zwickau, Ludwigsburg's partner district, was elected last Sunday. He succeeds Dr. Christoph Scheurer, who is retiring from office after more than who is retiring from office after more than 30 years.

Michaelis achieved 35.9% of the vote in the second round of voting, beating the four other remaining candidates
. Dorothee Obst (Freie Wähler) also achieved 35.9
percent, with only
ten votes in favor of Michaelis. Unlike in the district of Ludwigsburg, where the district council elects the district administrator
, in Zwickau the office is decided by direct election by the people. Voter turnout
was 28.9 percent in the second round of voting.

Carsten Michaelis has been an alderman and deputy district administrator in the Zwickau district since 2016, having previously been the full-time mayor
of Jahnsdorf for ten years.
He is now taking over from Dr. Christoph Scheurer, who has been in office since 1991 and
is now retiring as the third longest-serving district administrator in Germany.
During this time, the partnership between the district of Zwickau and the
district of Ludwigsburg has always been very lively. Starting with the help of the district of
Ludwigsburg in setting up a public administration based on the West German model,
still regularly exchanges views on current issues and problems today, for example
on the experiences of taking in Ukrainian refugees.

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier is now looking forward to working in partnership with Carsten
Michaelis and wishes the newly elected District Administrator all the best
and every success in his new role.
