In addition to the very well-preserved desks and other small items of furniture from the district hall, several pallets of Ensinger mineral water, wheelchairs and wheelchairs from Sersheim, as well as crockery, clothes, bed linen and bicycles from Sachsenheim and other places in the district were also sent on their way.
A representative of the receiving partner church was also present when the truck was loaded by the eight-member volunteer team led by Sachsenheim deacon Ulrich Hirsch: Pastor Mgr. Samuel Miško, head of the church office of the EKAB (Evangelical Church A.B. in Slovakia) in Prešov, had made the 1100-kilometer journey from eastern Slovakia to Württemberg. The "Evangelical Church A.B. in Slovakia", partner church of the Württemberg Regional Church, is a minority church with 206,000 parishioners among the 5.4 million inhabitants, divided into two regional areas.
In the Eastern District, based in Prešov - formerly Eperies - the "Diakoniehaus Elim", a large nursing home with 36 rooms, was inaugurated at the beginning of 2023 after years of renovation and expansion. The GAW and Württembergische Diakonie have already collected and financed care beds and other relief supplies several times for the operation of the care center, which is important for eastern Slovakia. Part of the donations from the current aid shipment is intended for the care home - another part for the Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia. "We are helping many Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia to find work, schools and food. In total, over 200 Ukrainian refugees are currently being cared for in 15 facilities in the east of the country. We are therefore grateful for any support," says Miško. "By lending out wheelchairs, care beds and walking frames, Diakonie East of the Slovak Paradise is providing an important social service," adds Miško. He is very grateful for the help from Württemberg, without which his church in Slovakia would not be able to carry out its service for the people.
The 5,000 euro aid transport was financed by the "Hope for Eastern Europe" campaign, the 1,000 euro grant from the district and a cheque from VR-Bank Ludwigsburg presented on the day of loading. Project manager Ulrich Hirsch estimates the total value of the donated relief supplies, including transportation, to be at least 30,000 euros.
