What moves the everyday lives of the younger generation today will determine the quality of life of the entire region tomorrow. The planning of the light rail system is about much more than image cultivation or a short-term improvement to the rail network. In fact, LUCIE is an integral part of the city of Ludwigsburg's "Mobility 2030+" master plan - and thus contributes to the state-wide goal of doubling public transport use by 2030 compared to 2010. This makes it a key lever for achieving the climate targets of the state and the EU in the transport sector and improving the quality of life in the Ludwigsburg region in the long term.
Commuter traffic is reduced, cities gain space for housing and green areas
In the coming years, mobility services will be consistently geared towards the growing demands of citizens. The Frauenhofer study "Smart Region - Mobility Turnaround 2030" underlines this forecast: working from home, digital learning and working models and changing shopping habits will reduce commuter traffic, while cities will gain space for living and green areas instead of parking spaces. LUCIE would therefore become the backbone of the sustainable and networked Ludwigsburg region in the future, while traditional public transport would decline in its current form.
"If we invest in efficient, climate-friendly rail infrastructure in the Ludwigsburg district today, we will ensure mobility for everyone tomorrow - even for those who are still young today," emphasizes Stadtbahn boss Michael Ilk. Together with the Ludwigsburg light rail association, he is calling on citizens, politicians and businesses to actively support the planning of LUCIE. The aim is to realize a future-proof light rail system in the near future that will connect generations, relieve traffic congestion in the long term and improve the quality of life in the region.
